Tom Mellor is an experienced actor, workshop practitioner, sound recordist and teacher. Tom's background is in theatre and he was a professional actor and facilitator at the BAFTA award-winning Geese Theatre Company working with masks and physical theatre in arts spaces, prisons and youth offending teams in the UK (where he still sometimes works as a freelancer).
He is a co founder of the Creative Research Collective – ‘a diverse group of professional artists, researchers, film-makers who work creatively with groups to explore and share difficult or sensitive topics and experiences. Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. We create an environment where participants and professionals learn from each other at a technical, emotional, or social level. We are interested in working with groups whose voices are rarely heard or excluded from public debate. We aim to find ways to reach wide audiences with clear messages. The process by which we get there is as important as any finished product, whether that’s a report, film or other practical output.’
Tom also works as a location sound recordist, editor and sound designer and often collaborates with various theatre companies and production companies. Recent projects have included work with Rideout Theatre, Rights of Passage Productions and Sprout Spoken.
Tom is a musician playing banjo, mandolin and guitar at sessions and also as part of performances. When not on the land Tom can be found in the ocean surfing or free diving.
